About the USS Endeavour
Launched on January 5, 1994, the USS Endeavour is one of SFOL's longest running SIMulations. The original USS Endeavour was a Nebula-class starship, registry number NCC-17156, and was commanded by Captain Nathaniel Hahn and Commander Katri. Over the years, the ship changed CO's and XO's quite a few times, but held true to its original mission to explore the galaxy and protect the Federation.
During the last decade, the Endeavour has discovered more than 10 new races, fought against the Borg, the Romulans, and other threats, always coming out on top, if no worse for the wear.
Of the original crew, only one crewmember remains. Commander Scott has been on the Endeavour since her launch in 1994. Other long-time crewmembers include Captain St.John (known in his last life as Captain Kessler), and Commander Morse (on extended LOA). Lt.Commander Jordan Bailey and First Lt. Zech Conner have been on the Endeavour for over five years. Commander MoSu Wiriamu and Lt. White have been aboard for less than 2 years.
In the beginning of the third year of Endeavour's mission, the Engineering team worked on developing a technology that could detect cloaked Romulan vessels without the use of large tachyon detection nets. While in the process of finishing this project, called "Sierra," the device was modified to not only detect cloaked ships, but it also gave the Endeavour the ability to cloak using special shields and sensor reflection technology. Thanks to the specific nature of the Treaty of Algeron, and because the Endeavour herself didn't cloak (her shields and sensors instead masked her signatures), the Sierra Device is considered legal by interstellar law. The device is still in use on the Endeavour today, and is still the only operational device of it's kind.
On stardate 9905.05, the original USS Endeavour was lost while struggling to save Captain Laura (ret.) and Commander Kessler from the clutches of Admiral Jennings, a renegade Admiral who had stolen the prototype Prometheus-class Spacefleet had been developing. The USS Prometheus was designed for long-term deep-space exploration, but was also heavily armed and was the first starship that was built by Starfleet in over 50 years that was designated a Dreadnought.
The Endeavour had stumbled upon Jennings base, on the outskirts of Federation space, and took notice of the extensive drydock facilities. After confirming that this was not an authorized Spacefleet base, the Endeavour took it upon themselves to figure out what Admiral Jennings was up to, and to return the stolen Prometheus-class prototype to Utopia Planetia, Mars, where she was being built and tested.
After discovering Admiral Jennings plan to conquer the Federation and then annex the surrounding empires, the Endeavour set forth to sabotage his plans. In the large battle that ensued, the Endeavour was damaged beyond repair, and the crew was rescued by the USS Enterprise. The Enterprise, and the small fleet she brought with her, helped to cover the escape of Commander Kessler and Major Scott in the recovered USS Prometheus.
After a few weeks of awaiting reassignment, the crew of the USS Endeavour was extremely pleased to be assigned to the prototype USS Prometheus, later re-christened the USS Endeavour NCC-17156-A.
